There is a concept called Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The hierarchy is all about the various needs of human beings. The needs toward the bottom of the hierarchy come first and foremost. These needs have to do with the very basic necessities that people need to not die. These necessities include warmth, being fed and receiving water.

As one level of necessities is fulfilled, another level higher up on the hierarchy needs to be fulfilled. Here is a list of needs, going up the pyramid: basic needs, psychological needs and self fulfillment needs. These categories of needs are further broken up into distinct levels.

For example, from the bottom up, the basic needs include physiological needs and safety. Psychological needs include belonginess and love needs, as well as esteem needs Self Fulfillment needs includes self actualization.

Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin are educated about Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, and believe that every human being should go to the top of the hierarchy, despite their political status. This is why they are grappling for the rights of immigrants by committing money to various organizations that serve to fulfill different aspects of Maslow’s Hierarchy for immigrants.

People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is a unique organization that brings animal rights issues to light in such a perspective that very few organizations, if any, do.

You can find a wealth of footage testifying to the cruelty that animals endure at the hands of humans beings on their website. Undercover people working on behalf of the organization have gone to all sorts of facilities to video tape and photograph the gruesomeness that goes on against animals.

Many celebrities have stood with PETA to shine lights on the problems that our society faces with animal abuse. Now, there are 6.5 million people around the world who are members of PETA—around the same number of people who live in some countries!

There are about 389 employees that work for PETA. The names of the founders are Alex Pacheko and Ingrid Newkirk. According to the slogan of the organization, their viewpoint is that we do not have a right to eat, wear or experiment on animals. The organization is a 501(c)3 organization based in Norfolk, Virginia.

Various Labor Unions

Labor unions are basically civil rights organizations that keep an eye out for the rights of laborers. Laborers make up a vast percentage of the world population, but that doesn’t mean that their civil rights aren’t being horrifically broken. Unions have seen an especially prominent presence ever since the Industrialization of the Western, European-culture based countries in the 1800s. Any law that sticks much-needed regulations on the workplace owes its existence to labor unions. There were a lot of physical confrontations, and a lot of people who were involved in union activities suffered just to make a point and to put pressure governments to enact these laws.

Believe it or not, but people died. There were incidents where men, women and children who camped out in strikes were beaten, shot and burned to death. The fight for the civil rights of laborers included fights that were like mini-civil wars and mini-genocides.
